Pink-fruited tomatoes have quite a few fans, and there are many reasons for this. The main thing, of course, is not color, but great taste and fleshy flesh. Among the most delicious, one can distinguish the Pink Flamingo variety. But very often, vegetable growers who grow this variety describe its appearance in different ways. Why is this happening, try to figure it out. To do this, we study the available information about the characteristics of the variety. And the State Register will, of course, give the most reliable information.

Description of the tomato variety Pink Flamingo

This is a relatively new, but fairly well-known and popular variety. In 2004, Agrofirm Search LLC and the Federal State Budget Scientific Institution "Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Production" became its applicants. After variety testing in 2007, Pink Flamingo was included in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of Russia. The culture is recommended for cultivation in the open field in personal subsidiary plots.

The originator of the Pink Flamingo tomato variety is Agrofirm Search

Growing regions

The plant turned out to be thermophilic, so the State Register issued a permit for the North Caucasus region. But, according to reviews, it can be judged that the variety has taken root and bears fruit well in the Central region. True, in a cooler climate they grow it under film shelters or in greenhouses.

Appearance

Based on official data, the variety can be attributed to determinant, that is, low, self-perfected. The height in the open ground, according to the description of the originator, is only 40 - 50 cm. The shoot-forming ability and leafiness are moderate. The leaves are medium sized, slightly corrugated, juicy green. The inflorescence is simple, 4 - 5 fruits are tied in each brush. On the first brushes, tomatoes are larger than on subsequent brushes. The peduncle with an articulation.

The fruit is beautifully rounded, moderately dense, with a slight ribbing at the peduncle. Average weight 75 - 110 g. Unripe tomato is light green, with a small varietal dark green spot. During the ripening period, the fruit becomes pink-raspberry, the stain disappears. The skin is thin, glossy. The flesh is fleshy, sugary on kink, very tender, juicy, but not excessively watery. The color is pale pink. There are no voids in the fetus, seed chambers from 4 to 6. The taste of ripe tomato and freshly squeezed juice is excellent. 100 g of juice contains:

  • dry matter - 5.6 - 6.8%;
  • sugars - 2.6 - 3.7%.

Specifications

  • Pink flamingo is mid-season. Harvesting is possible in 100 - 105 days after the appearance of full seedlings;
  • after variety testing, the State Register noted good productivity - 234 - 349 kg / ha. If we compare with the variety of Gifts of the Volga region taken as a standard, then the minimum indicator of Pink Flamingo is lower - 176 c / ha, but the maximum is higher - 362 c / ha;
  • yield of marketable products is not bad - 68 - 87%;
  • vegetable growers have a high resistance to the main diseases of the culture - the tobacco mosaic virus, fusarium and late blight;
  • thin peel does not save tomatoes from cracking;
  • a pink-cheeked variety can suffer from the so-called green shoulders, which are formed either due to too cold weather, or due to a lack of trace elements;
  • the transportability is not good enough, the fruits during transportation may wrinkle and lose their presentation;
  • poor keeping quality, it is advisable to immediately eat or process the harvested crop;
  • The method of consumption is primarily salad, but ripe tomatoes produce excellent tomato products. For whole-canning, the variety is not suitable - the skin breaks after heat treatment.

With a lack of potassium in a pink flamingo tomato, green shoulders may remain

Tomato Pink flamingo - one of the most delicious pink-fruited varieties

Features of cultivation and planting

Pink flamingos are recommended to be grown in seedlings. The sowing date is mid-March. If you plan to grow a plant under film shelters, then sowing is carried out in early March. The main thing is that by the time a plant is transplanted to a permanent place, it is already 60 days old. Seed preparation is carried out in the usual way. When growing seedlings, generally accepted rules are followed. But as you know, pink-fruited tomatoes are very demanding on agricultural technology. And Pink Flamingo is no exception.

By the way, about the timing of sowing. In Crimea, it is customary to sow tomato seeds for seedlings very early - in the middle or end of February. The fact is that after the seedling is transplanted into the soil, a hot period quickly sets in, and if you adhere to generally accepted terms, the plants begin to burn in the sun. And the early seeding procedure allows tomatoes to form normally before the onset of heat.

The nuances of agricultural technology

To get a really worthy crop of delicious tomatoes, you need to know some of the subtleties associated with the growing process:

  • well-lit areas are diverted for the garden; under sunlight, the fruits acquire greater sugar content and better taste;
  • at the time of active growth of green mass, watering should be plentiful, but not excessive. As soon as the fruits begin to ripen, moisturizing is reduced to avoid cracking the tomatoes;
  • with a lack of potassium, green shoulders will be observed. Therefore, as a top dressing, it is best to use universal balanced fertilizers containing the elements necessary for the culture in the right proportions.

Subject to relatively simple agricultural techniques, Pink Flamingo tomatoes will strive for excellence

Planting scheme and bush formation

The standard landing scheme is applied - 30 - 40 cm between bushes in a row and 70 cm row spacing. Whichever of the varieties of Pink Flamingos you grow, the bush must be tied up. A low-growing variety can be grown as a stake culture and formed in 2 to 4 stems. A tall plant is best tied to a trellis and formed into 1 to 2 stems.

Varieties of the same name

And now about why the same variety has differences in the external description and characteristics. The fact is that in Ukraine there is its own (and not even one) Pink flamingo.

The seed companies Veles and GL SEEDS selling seeds describe the crop as semi-determinant, 1.2-1.5 m high. The shape of the fruit also differs - it is from flat-round-conical to elongated-heart-shaped. The mass of tomato from different manufacturers can be 150 g or 300 - 400 g. The ripening period of these varieties is somewhat longer than that of the variety described by the State Register.

Pink flamingo of Ukrainian selection has the shape of an extended heart

There is another variation from Biotechnology. It is also declared as tall, with a mass of fruits from 150 to 170 g. Its shape is more like a plum-like one. Brushes of the intermediate type, numbering about 10 (or more) ovaries.

Tomato Pink flamingo from Biotechnology looks like cream

Of course, the popularity of the variety led to the fact that many tomato growers are already confused about which of the cultivated varieties is the right one. Some even boast of pink striped flamingos.. First of all, you need to trust official information - the State Register. Well, if you like elongated fruits, get seeds of the Ukrainian variety, especially since here it also bears fruit.

The popularity of the Pink Flamingo led to the appearance of the striped variety

Pink Flamingo Tomato Reviews

I don’t know which company I have "Pink Flamingo", a friend gave it to me last year. I have big cream, it grew on the street. And this year I planted it in a greenhouse. And the tomatoes are raging. Where I left one stem, two brushes have already been tied, where two or three stems are still only blooming.

I liked the variety very much. She planted two bushes in a greenhouse. One was about 80 cm, the second was about 60 cm. The fruits turned out to be slightly different: elongated from one bush, with a pronounced, somewhat curved nose; others are more rounded and the nose is not so pronounced. I liked the taste, sweet-sour, pleasant. The second bush with rounded fruits was more prolific, counted about 23 tomatoes.

Pink flamingos are generally nonsense. All tomatoes with shoulders, the crop is low, the taste is ordinary.

Really very tasty, but one thing is popping and strong. I limited watering during ripening and treated with calcium - it does not help, but I will grow it, my family really likes it.

I have two types of them, one flat with a beak, and the second more round. But in the ovaries they are the same, with a beak (I will find a photo) I am very happy that there are several options.

Pink flamingo is a beautiful and productive tomato. Belonging to varietal crops will allow you to feel the wonderful aroma and fully enjoy the real taste, which hybrids lack. Of course, the plant is demanding on agricultural technology, but it is nice to see the high return of the crop to the care shown.
