The meanings of sculptural compositions

It is believed that the sculptures are not only decoration of the site, but also able to influence the environment and its owners. Before choosing statues, you need to familiarize yourself with what its placement will mean:

  • small gnomes - luck, rich harvest;
  • animal figures - good health, long life;
  • sculptures of man made of marble - protection from loneliness;
  • heroes of fairy tales - an interesting, diverse life with a lot of unforgettable moments;
  • dragon is a symbol of fertility, according to Chinese belief, he is a deity of moisture and rain.

Many are skeptical of signs, but designers always pay attention to them when decorating the landscape.

Sculpture Materials

For the production of sculptures, the following materials are most often used:

  • tree;
  • gypsum;
  • concrete or aerated concrete;
  • natural and artificial stone;
  • metal;
  • plants (such figures are called topiary).

From wood

Products are easy to make by yourself. You can turn on your imagination and do, for example:

  • a product from scraps of plywood and boards;
  • a decorative well or a hut of planed branches;
  • jewelry made of stumps, snags, logs, which with their bizarre forms themselves will give an idea.

The material is environmentally friendly and will fit into any landscape design.

To prevent insect pests from wounding up in the figure or not starting to rot, processing with a special compound for wood is necessary.

There is a negative point: sculptures from this material for the summer garden. For the winter they need to be brought into the room.

From gypsum and cement

You can independently make flowerpots, various figures, using homemade molds.

If you have a plaster statue on your own site or your acquaintances, this is a great opportunity to cast a copy of it:

  • Dilute clay in water to a thick state. It can be bought or assembled independently, dried and passed through a large sieve.
  • Press the resulting mass into an existing figure. First, from the front, then from the back. It will form stencils.
  • Set them in the sun to dry. If cracks form, cover with plasticine.
  • Make a mixture of dry gypsum and water. By consistency, it should be like sour cream.
  • Lubricate the stencils with wax.
  • Pour the gypsum solution into the molds and leave to harden for a day at a temperature of + 16 ... + 25 ° C.
  • Glue two parts with moisture resistant adhesive.
  • Smooth out irregularities at the junction of the halves with sandpaper.
  • Paint the sculpture with moisture resistant paints.

Of course, gypsum is a brittle material, but with proper care it will last for many years.

Concrete sculptures come in various forms. Step-by-step manufacturing process:

  • Build a frame, for example, of wire, pipes, etc.
  • Make a solution of cement and sand (3 to 1).
  • Gradually apply the concrete solution, allowing the inner layers to dry.
  • Decorate the sculpture. For example, decorative elements cast from gypsum mortar into silicone baking dishes can be used.

If there is no practice in making figures from concrete, it is recommended to start with the simplest forms.

More experienced sculptors can build a castle. Stones will serve as masonry, broken ceramics and tiles will serve as decoration. Such a construction will ennoble the site and will cost much less than a purchase.

Concrete can be left on the street for the winter, if covered with a box. Only occasionally is it necessary to renew the surface layer.

Made of stone

To create garden sculptures, you can use several types of stones:

  • Marble. Products from this stone are real works of art. When you look at them, it seems that they are highlighted from the inside. Such sculptures give the site luxury and presentability.
  • Granite. A durable stone that is not afraid of the negative impact of the environment. Sculptures made of this material look very harmonious with granite benches, steps, fountains, paths.
  • Sandstone. The figures made of this stone are durable, while they are inexpensive.
  • Polystone. Artificial stone, which is better in characteristics than natural.

Having picked up suitable stones in the form, they can be painted and laid out various animals on a flower bed.

For example, a polystone makes beautiful turtles, snails, etc.

From metal

It is a durable, wear-resistant material. The price of sculptures from it is not cheap. Copper and bronze statues harmoniously look on the background of any structure.

Copper is not subject to adverse environmental influences (ultraviolet rays, rain, etc.) and a sharp jump in temperature. It is not rusty, which makes it easy to clean.

Sculptures from it are often installed not only in private areas, but also in park areas, squares.

Vegetable

Topiary - curly cut plants. It is often used to decorate the landscape in Europe. To decorate your site in this way, you need to have a lot of patience (the plant must reach the required size) and special tools.

There are 3 ways to create topiary:

  • traditional - pruning a live bush;
  • figures grown on peat;
  • sculptural compositions from ivy.

It must be taken into account that sculptures require care. They need to be trimmed so that they do not lose shape and do not turn into thickets.

From improvised means

Creative people can connect their imagination and create jewelry from any means at hand. For example, you can use the following materials:

  • plastic bottles;
  • tires;
  • broken dishes;
  • branches after pruning trees;
  • old furniture;
  • cans;
  • broken bike and stuff.

In general, with a rich imagination, you can make a decoration for the site from which the soul wants. The most important thing when applying to comply with the following rules:

  • Figures should be combined with landscape design. For example, if it is made in a modern style, you can not put old statues.
  • The place for sculptures must be selected in advance. It is recommended to execute them from cardboard and see if it will look harmoniously in the selected area.
  • Do not overload the site with decorative elements. This will only spoil the look.
  • Not always a figure should be the main element of the decor. Sometimes it is more appropriate to place it on the edge and cover it with plants.

Landscape design is a creative and exciting experience. Only free time, patience and imagination are needed to make the site attractive, memorable and cozy.
