Hydrangea Weems Red

The advantage of this species over other varieties of hydrangeas is the earlier flowering, which can continue until the first frost. This deciduous shrub has slightly curly shoots, most of which bend under the weight of large inflorescences, giving the entire plant a spherical shape. The leaves are rounded, with clear veins.

Flowering can be observed annually, from late June to early October. In areas with a short summer, hydrangea blooms until the end of August - beginning of September. The buds are collected in large inflorescences with a delicate honey aroma. The smell is unobtrusive, light and pleasant.

Adult bush in bloom

After flowering on the shoots, seeds suitable for propagation can be observed. The length of each inflorescence can vary from 20 to 30 centimeters, which depends on the quality of the soil and climate.

Transplant Vims red after purchase in the open ground

Hydrangea Bobo - a dwarf variety of panicled winter-hardy hydrangea

It is better to transplant the acquired Wymes hydrangea in the spring or in the fall. Therefore, if the plant was purchased in the summer, it is advisable not to touch it before the season suitable for transplantation arrives.

Attention! It is necessary to transplant the shrub by transshipment without damaging or exposing the roots.

What you need for landing

The plant will feel comfortable in light, loose fertile soil. It can be purchased in a specialized store or made independently by mixing in equal proportions turf land, peat and sand. The bottom of the hole must be laid with large rubble or broken brick.

The size of the dug pit under the bush should be 20 cm wider and deeper than the pot in which it was purchased.

Important! Immediately after transplantation, the plant should be watered with a large volume of water - at least 30 liters.

ABOUToptimal place

Wimped panicle hydrangea should be planted where it will be protected from the winds. If the gardener does not have problems with frequent and plentiful watering, the bush can be settled in sunny areas. If it is likely that the owner will rarely be able to water hydrangea on sunny hot days, then it is better to place it in shady areas that are not prone to rapid drying.

Step-by-step landing process

It is better to transplant from a pot after purchase or already an outdoor plant to a new place just before all the greenery around it begins to wake up after a winter sleep. For this:

  1. Dig a hole of an appropriate size.
  2. Prepare a fertile substrate in sufficient quantity.
  3. Lay drainage at the bottom of the pit.
  4. Install a plant dug from a previous place or dumped from a pot.
  5. Fill the space around the roots with prepared soil.
  6. Water abundantly, then add the substrate to areas sagged from watering.

Important! It is recommended to compact the soil around the shoots so that there are no air pockets.

Cuttings

After spring pruning, you can use the remaining healthy shoots to propagate the plant. They are treated with growth stimulants, after which they are grounded in a pot with fertile soil, watered abundantly and wait for rooting.

Seed cultivation

Seeds collected in the fall are suitable for germination if they are previously hardened. To do this, the collected seed is placed in the refrigerator for a day, after which it is placed in a warm place, under moist gauze.

Ripened hydrangea seeds

Sprouts that have sprouted can be planted in open ground in spring, when a stable temperature regime is established.

Care

Chlorosis of panicle or large-leaved hydrangea - how to treat leaves

Hydrangea Williams red will not cause problems with cultivation if it is provided with the necessary soil composition, sufficient illumination and regular plentiful watering. If the soil is not acidic enough, the plant will either not bloom or the flowering will turn pale.

Watering mode

During the hot summer, hydrangea Red Wings needs watering twice a week. Under each bush you need to pour a bucket of water to prevent drying out. The root system does not develop to great depths, which is why strong drying of the upper layers of the soil can destroy the plant.

Top dressing

Throughout the flowering period, it is necessary to feed with natural mullein or specialized purchased fertilizers for hydrangeas. Recommended frequency - 2 times a month.

Poor flowering due to soil

During flowering

Non-fertilized soil may lose its acidity if its characterization does not meet the needs of the plant. During the flowering period, this is especially important, because the nutrition of the plant directly affects the saturation of flowering.

During rest

The bush during wintering does not need either fertilizer or watering, like all other plants. Immediately after the end of winter, the disappearance of snow and melt water, the plant needs to be helped to gain strength for growth and development, for which chicken manure is introduced as fertilizer.

Winter preparations

Despite the winter hardiness of the variety, if the wondrous beauty grows in the region with a harsh winter, you need to provide her shoots with covering material, protect the roots with a thick layer of mulch.

Important! Before the onset of cold weather, hydrangeas cut weak and sick shoots.

It will not be difficult to equip your site with lushly flowering shrubs if you observe the acidity of the soil and constant watering. Having ennobled the yard with a bright beauty, you can forget about planting new flowering plants for many years.
