Snow time is a favorite time for the kids: skiing and sledding, fun snowballs and building ice castles ... But the owners of country houses are not very happy with the abundance of snow, because you have to take up a shovel and clear the area. It is good when it is possible to purchase a snowplow and turn a seasonal duty into a pleasant job. But if there is no extra money to buy a useful "assistant", you can always make a snow blower with your own hands from materials that have been gathering dust for a long time in the corner of the workshop or barn.

Construction # 1 - auger snow blower model

Preparation of the main elements

We suggest that you first consider the option of making a do-it-yourself snow blower based on an old engine from a walk-behind tractor. To do this, prepare:

  • Sheet (roofing) iron for assembly of the screw housing;
  • Steel angle 50x50 mm for the frame;
  • 10 mm plywood for side parts;
  • Half inch pipe for arranging the handle of the machine.

When planning to equip a homemade snow blower with an air-cooled engine, it is imperative to provide additional protection for the air intake openings from small particles of snow emitted during operation.

The engine power of this device is 6.5 hp. It is quite enough for cleaning fresh snow from the household territory

Thanks to the machine’s working width of 50 cm, it will be convenient to move the structure and clear the winding paths on the site. The machine has compact dimensions, its width does not exceed 65 cm. This allows you to hide the snow blower in the barn at any time as unnecessary, it easily passes through the usual doorway.

A ¾ inch pipe can be used to make the screw shaft. A through cut is made in the pipe, which is necessary for fixing a metal blade with dimensions of 120x270 mm. In the process, the trapped snow mass from the conveyor belt by the screw will move to the blade. This blade, in turn, under the action of the rotation of the shaft will recline the snow to the sides.

The snow blower frame can be welded from steel angles of 50x50 mm, and closer to the edges of the structure in the pipe to the transverse corners, it remains only to weld two corners on each side, the dimensions of which are 25x25 mm

In the future, the engine platform will be attached to these corners. Fasten the transverse angles with the longitudinal ones and fix the control handles on them with the help of bolts (M8).

The auger pipe is equipped with a metal spatula and four rubber rings d = 28 cm, the material for the manufacture of which can be a tire sidewall or a 1.5-meter transport tape 1.5 mm thick.

You can cut the rings from the rubber base with a simple device: drive two screws into the plank, and then tightly fix this structure on the tape and rotate in a circle. Significantly simplify the cutting procedure using an electric jigsaw

Since the auger of the snow blower will rotate in self-centering bearings 205, they must be placed on the pipe. In order to make a snow blower yourself, you can use any bearings, the main thing is that they must be of closed design. In the role of a protective casing for bearings, the support from the cardan of old Lada models can act.

Tip. In order for the structure to fit well into the bearings, it is necessary to make a couple of cuts in it and lightly tap. Such manipulations can slightly reduce the diameter of the shaft.

It is advisable to provide a safety pin to insure a homemade auger against ice. In addition to its direct purpose - cutting when the screw is jammed, it will serve as a belt fuse (if equipped with a belt drive system). The auger can also be driven by a chain. Its idle speed is about 800 rpm. All necessary snowplow components can be purchased at any specialized store.

For snow rejection, a piece of plastic sewer pipe d = 160 mm is well suited. It is fixed on a pipe of the same diameter located on the screw housing itself.

A continuation of this segment of the pipe will be a gutter for ejecting snow, the diameter of which should be larger than the width of the metal auger blades.

Assembly assembly

Before assembling the structure, it is necessary to pay attention to the fact that the dimensions of the machine body must be a couple of centimeters higher than the dimensions of the screw itself. This will prevent the mechanism from hitting the walls of the housing during operation.

Since the snow blower engine can be used for other purposes in snowless periods, it is advisable to provide a quick-detachable convenient platform in the design of the unit, thanks to which the engine can be removed at any time without using any tools.

A significant advantage of this design solution is the ease of cleaning the casing and moving parts of the machine from compacted snow. And it’s much easier to remove such a snow blower for storage: it is enough to remove the engine and the machine will become twice as easy.

The basis for the ski are wooden bars, which are additionally equipped with plastic overlays. You can make such pads from the box from the wiring

The snow blower is ready for operation. It remains only to paint a homemade device and begin work on clearing the snow.

Design # 2 - Blizzard Rotary Snow Blower

This device, which is quite simple in design, can be made in any workshop equipped with a lathe and a welding machine. The snow collector designed by Penza craftsmen performed well even in rather difficult conditions of snow marks.

The basis of the device’s design is: an engine with an installed silencer, a gas tank and a cable for controlling the throttle body.

All components of the device can be purchased at the store or taken from the same motorbike.

First you need to make a rotor on a lathe based on the appropriate workpiece from a motor part. Outwardly, it looks like a steel disk d = 290 mm and a thickness of 2 mm. The disc, connecting with the bolts to the hub, forms a structure to which 5 blades are already attached by welding. To increase the efficiency of the mechanism of the blade additionally reinforced with stiffening ribs from the reverse side.

The engine cooling system works on the principle of a fan, the blades of which are made of aluminum and are fixed on a pulley to start the motor

The fan is protected by a soldered casing located on the crankcase cover. To improve the quality of cooling, the cylinder head is placed at an angle of 90 degrees.

A shaft is mounted on the rotor housing with four ball bearings placed in pairs. It is fixed to the body with a steel clamping ring and bolts. The rotor housing itself is pressed against the frame with the help of a special bracket, which partially captures the clamping ring.

Removable elements of the machine are the aluminum wall of the rotor housing and scrapers placed along the frame.

A significant advantage of a homemade snowplow is the ability to change the working width by changing the scrapers. At the height and quality characteristics of the unit. The weight of the structure does not exceed 18 kg, which makes it possible for women to use it, and the snow throw range is about 8 meters.
